No More Lemonade for Me (Final Post)

No More Lemonade for Me (Final Post)

So, they had pushed the repair back and back about a couple of months, saying that the part was never in stock. The rep from Chrysler also kept promising me that as soon as they got them, I would be the first to get a windshield. While I waited I decided that enough was enough, and thanks to the car being in the shop for so long, over 30 days, I was totally eligible for the easiest type of Lemon Law buy back. I looked up info on doing it myself but Chrysler did not have an easy way to start the process like some other car manufacturers have. I decided to search for a lawyer and chose one that specializes in consumer affairs and lemon law. They were happy to take my case as it was an easy win for them, there was a flat fee of $3500 for the entire process, guaranteed,  they would take from the payment at the end.

The process was easy and straightforward from there. The Chrysler rep at one point called and offered to pay 1 month of car payments for the car (Really, already over 40 days in the shop). I had to decline since I had started the Lemon Law process. When I told her I started the process, the told me that she could no longer assist me in getting the glass fixed. I tried to tell her they still had the same obligation to fix the car while I still owned it but she obviously wasn’t going to be helpful going forward (As if she was before).

So, now that the car was in the shop and I had to get paperwork showing the exit day to complete the lemon law. I needed a paper saying when they got the car, and another when I get it back so they can see the dates being over 30 days. The dealer was frustrated with Chrysler’s empty promises also and he ended up calling their glass repair company and get this… they had gotten stock of windshields from Chrysler about 20 days earlier! Ha! So they had come in stock, but they never allocated one to me, and they never offered the option to get one from an authorized shop.

Anyway, the lemon law buy back process took about 3 months. When I finally got the car back and the paperwork was started, my lawyer said I could use the car all I wanted now and it would not change my reimbursement so I used it for about another 2 months. They had updated the software while in the shop but the system was still crashing. I never got the turtle or door errors again. I think it had about 3500 miles when I returned it.

If anyone goes the by back route, a few notes.

  1. I had an unsecured loan on the car so they would not reimburse by interest. It wasn’t much so whatever.
  2. They would not reimburse the insurance. They said that they didn’t require me to keep insurance while the car was in the shop. (really…)
  3. They did reimburse my charger and installation. I had to give them the charger but still have an outlet installed in my garage.
  4. I still got the $7500 tax credit, which is why I didn’t bother fighting more for item 1 and 2. I probably would have gotten them if I dragged the process on longer.

One final note, I still have access to the car in my uConnect. I uninstalled the app a few months ago so I don’t know about now but if you buy a used one, you might want to make sure they remove all old accounts as it doesn’t seem to be a standard practice.

Good Luck!
